Beware of politicians bearing gifts

Quote “If you have ever studied mythology, this should be familiar to you. This is just a recap. The Trojan War was between Greeks and Trojans. The Greeks gave the Trojans a big, wooden horse that was hollow inside and could hold 30 armed men inside the body of the horse. The Trojans then pulled the horse inside the city. When night fell, the Greeks came out and attacked the unsuspecting and drunk Trojans.”

Above from source: WikiAnswers - What does beware of greeks bearing gifts mean

This is what “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts” means.

When it comes to politicians, there is nothing too despicable they wouldn’t do. They would lie and kill their mothers if it means that they get what they need to achieve their goals.

It’s idiotic for a politician to proclaim himself corrupt free. No human being is incorruptible and infallible. To proclaim otherwise is saying that they are superhuman.

Back to the point of gifts bearing greeks. I often see this ploy played out to the advantage of the government in power during election times. They would offer carrots like lift upgrades in exchange for votes. Isn’t this vote buying?

Once they are voted in office, they would impose all kinds of levies and implement policies that would make the lives of the very people who voted them into power miserable.

This vote buying tactics seem to work very well. People keep coming back for more!

Well, to be fair, not everyone gets to vote. That’s the topic for another time. What happened to the one man one vote system?!
